Lukashenko: Kyiv deliberately “leaked” details of the spy scandal to the media
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said in a conversation with journalists that Kyiv, despite the agreements, made the “spy” case public, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to the Belta agency.

According to Lukashenko, the spy case was discussed in early November during his meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, which took place in the United Arab Emirates.
At the meeting in the UAE, an agreement was reached not to make the matter public, however, according to Lukashenko, the Ukrainian side violated it.
“They made a fuss, everything was splashed out in the media. What could I do? I reversed my decision and said to state some facts in the media so that people would understand that we are not escalating the situation in relations with Ukraine. And we showed. This man admitted where he worked and how he worked. There are plenty of additional materials. I don’t know why this scandal was needed. But they violated our agreement,” Lukashenko said.
He also noted that there is no point in looking for a Moscow trace in this case, since there is none there.
As previously reported, on October 25, the State Security Committee of Belarus detained Ukrainian Radio correspondent Pavel Sharoiko.
He was accused of creating an agent network from among citizens of the Republic of Belarus; for a monetary reward, they carried out his tasks to collect intelligence information in the military-political sphere.
A criminal case was initiated against Pavel Sharoiko under Art. 358 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (espionage) and a decision was made to apply a preventive measure in the form of detention.
