Lukashenko is only scaring Ukraine – Pogrebinsky
Belarus is only scaring Ukraine by freezing relations, but in fact the threats will not lead to real actions.
Political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky spoke about this on the NewsOne TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is how he responded to the criticism of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko regarding Ukraine, which, according to him, is “tearing to the quick” bilateral relations.
“We will sell our products – that’s not the question. But you are tearing, breaking alive. You cover these events in Belarus in a way that they are not covered in the same way in the West and America. Why You Need It? We have always worried about you – and about these Maidans, and so on. And you begin to break and crumble us. For what?
After all, Lukashenko, the Zelenskys come and go, but the people remain. Why spoil relations, why are you following the lead of the Americans and Poles by creating this psychological center, something it’s called, the Center for Psychological Work against Belarus. We see it all.
How do we see? At the suggestion of the Ukrainians. We have a huge number, millions of friends there - they immediately informed us, the military informed us. We checked – for sure,” Lukashenko said.
Pogrebinsky believes that the Belarusian leader is only scaring the neighboring country. But at the same time, the expert emphasized that both states are mutually dependent on each other economically.
“Lukashenko makes more threats - he has been doing this often against his neighbors lately, but I still haven’t seen any concrete steps on his part. But the fact that he laments is quite fair - after all, he, who is part of the Union State with Russia, ignores Russian interests, especially in matters related to relations with Ukraine. Well, I mean that it does not recognize Crimea, punishes people who fought on the side of Donbass, puts them in prison, and so on. He supported me in every possible way. Well, they spat in his soul.
It is clear that he will be upset, offended, and so on. But I think that this also includes the Belarusian interest in maintaining trade turnover between our countries. And he understands that this is not because Zelensky is so bad (he is, of course, bad), but because he is a dependent person. So he says: well, it’s not good, of course, to do as they told you.
But I see that he understands that this is because it is necessary to follow the policy dictated by the State Department and Brussels. So I think he's ready to be soft. This will be a disaster for us - imagine that we will stop receiving a mountain!” Pogrebinsky said.
