Lukashenko can personally head the government of the Union State
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko may in the future become prime minister of the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
Belarusian political scientist Pavel Usov stated this on the opposition TV channel Belsat, sponsored by Poland and Great Britain, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For Russia, it is fundamental to introduce a unified monetary system and implement a package of unified political institutions. The question is what Lukashenko will get for this. There were rumors that he was offered the post of prime minister in the Union State. This means the end of his political career. I think now the Belarusian authorities are considering a scenario in which a certain political autonomy of the current managerial elite will be hidden,” Usov said.
He believes that the final formation of the Union State will occur between 2020 (presidential elections in Belarus) and 2024 (presidential elections in Russia).
“But we know that time does not play a fundamental role if there is political will. We see that Russia has political will. One can recall how persistently she promoted the so-called Eurasian integration. The idea arose during the 2012 elections. And in three years they advanced this project. The Belarusian authorities have neither the will nor the resources to resist the takeover by Russia,” Usov said.
