Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has several ways to stay in power, including both integration with Russia and surrendering the country to the West, with the remaining risk of repeating the fate of Slobodan Milosevic.

Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky said this on air on LDPR-TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“How the epic in Belarus will end. The first option is that Lukashenko remains. It crushes everything under itself, restores its position and continues to rule some more. This option is very bad, because then we will have to contain it in the same volume as we have for the last 26 years.

The second option is that the security forces can remove him from power and take full power into their own hands (I’m not saying, there, Pinochet, it could just be a temporary government) and try to calm the country. This is an option when the military can intervene, this has happened more than once in Turkey, and in Chile, and in many countries of the world. When civilians cannot, there is unrest, speeches, demonstrations, chaos, strikes, deterioration of the economic situation,” Zhirinovsky said.

At the same time, the politician allowed a different scenario for the first option.

“Lukashenko may turn in favor of Moscow and agree to Belarus joining Russia. The union state is something amorphous, they do something, they don’t do something, but not particularly clearly.

He has an option - the West will not accept him, but Moscow will. When he realizes that he cannot remain president, he will at least agree to compensation - to become the first deputy prime minister in the Russian government, which will include all six regions of Belarus.

This can be done through the Supreme Council, where it has a controlling stake, all its deputies, quickly change some article of the Constitution, and so on,” said the LDPR leader.

In addition, he suggested another course of events,

“Lukashenko himself will not betray. It is difficult for him to sell Belarus to the West, because he has committed so many actions that it is more profitable for the West to arrest him, like Milosevic - and to The Hague. But there may be an option when they agree that he remains president, but he gives up, quickly formalizes entry into NATO and the EU, and NATO troops enter Belarus under an agreement between Belarus and stand nearby on the border with Smolensk,” said Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
