Lukashenko hopes to make money from the Ukrainian-Russian conflict
Minsk - Kyiv - Moscow, April 02 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) - Alexander Lukashenko hopes that Belarus will receive a number of lucrative contracts from the Russian defense industry, whose ties with Ukraine are being curtailed due to the conflict in Crimea.
This was reported by Nezavisimaya Gazeta, commenting on the meeting between the Belarusian President and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Rogozin.
The publication recalls that Moscow and Minsk have been negotiating for a long time about the creation of a joint venture with the participation of the Belarusian Integral, Peleng, the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant and MAZ.

However, the parties were unable to agree on the price and terms of the merger. Now, the newspaper writes, “the value of Belarus for Russia, which is losing allies, is only growing, which means that Moscow may after all agree to Lukashenko’s conditions.” However, the limiting factor for Minsk is the problems of the Belarusian economy - without Russian help it will be difficult.
However, experts believe that Belarus will still not be able to completely replace cooperation with Ukraine in the military-industrial complex for Russia.
“The “Ukrainian trace” is recorded in more than 50% of ground-based intercontinental ballistic missiles, which, in turn, are the delivery vehicles for two-thirds of the number of warheads,” said political commentator Roman Yakovlevsky. “The Belarusian defense industry will in no way be able to compensate Russia for the damage that it suffers from the breakdown of relations in this area with Ukraine,” the expert is sure.
