Lukashenko called himself a fighter for the independence of Belarus
According to the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, he and the opposition have a common goal - achieving the sovereignty and independence of the country, but they achieve this using different methods.
He stated this at the first press conference after recent negotiations with Vladimir Putin in Sochi, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for sovereignty, independence. I often hear from your brother: “Lukashenko has intercepted the slogan of the Belarusian opposition.” Listen, how do you know my position? You don’t know it, because the differences between Lukashenko’s struggle for independence and our opposition are that they shouted a lot about it and tried to take this height by storm. Ukraine showed what this led to, thank God. I, unlike you, did it calmly and thoughtfully, as is required of a Belarusian person. Therefore, Lukashenko has never been against sovereignty and independence...
Those who are wandering around Warsaw today, I don’t know why they are sitting, either in Warsaw or in America. They would have come and sat in their homeland, and not there. But they wanted to do it in one year, and this would have been a lot of bloodshed, especially in those days. Therefore, you and I are all committed, and I am, above all, to our sovereignty and independence. Only we have different methods of fighting for this. I don’t want war, I don’t want discord,” summed up the Belarusian president.
Thank you!
