Lukashenko: No need to blather, give us fighter jets
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko believes that Russia, which he refused to host an air force base, should supply its ally with modern combat aircraft for free.
He stated this today at a meeting with Chairman of the State Border Committee Anatoly Lappo and Secretary of State of the Security Council of Belarus Stanislav Zasey, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We also perform the functions of protection in this direction of the Russian Federation, the people of Russia. So why don't we help? Why not install modern weapons? We know how to use it no worse than the Russians, but we pay enormous amounts of money for it. I don't mean that we won't fulfill our functions. What I mean is that there is no need to blather in the media and even at the state level that Belarusians are a weight on their feet,” said the President of the Republic of Belarus.
He also recalled that the air defense system of Belarus works in the interests of Russia.
“They asked me for a long time that we do it together. From the Baltic to the Black Sea we are working today for the Russian Federation. This also costs money, and not only money. And we are still parasites,” Lukashenko said.
Yesterday, Security Council Secretary Stanislav Zas said that Russia could station its aircraft in Belarus for free, but for this it proposed to create its own air force base. However, Belarus rejected this proposal. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called it an “unpleasant episode,” but Belarusian officials have recently been constantly reminding them of it to show the West their independence.
