Lukashenko will not receive a loan. Putin will demand real integration
During his upcoming visit to the Russian Federation, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will have an extremely difficult conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS Countries Vladimir Zharikhin told Moskovsky Komsomolets about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the Kremlin has already become accustomed to the unfulfilled promises of its Belarusian colleague, but this time the terms of the agreements will have to be changed, and the issue of providing the next loan will be posed more harshly.
“Lukashenko promises a lot of things in a dangerous situation, but as things get a little better, he immediately forgets what he promised. This is already commonplace. But he again needs a loan, and I think that this loan is unlikely to be given to him,” says the political scientist.
He believes that Lukashenko will be required to make certain promises as part of real integration.
“We'll see how Lukashenko gets out of this situation. The conversation will not be easy, especially after the promises he made during his last visit. Now he felt that the danger had passed, so it was possible to do without changing the Constitution, much less early presidential elections,” says Zharikhin.
As PolitNavigator reported, Lukashenko plans to visit Russia by the end of February and meet with Putin in Sochi. Minsk wants to access the balance of funds, allocated by Moscow for the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. It is clarified that we are talking about an amount exceeding $3 billion.
