Lukashenko will not be able to voluntarily leave his post
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko cannot leave his post because he is afraid of reprisals against himself.
Dmitry Bolkunets, an expert at the Institute for the Development of Integration Processes, stated this on the air of the liberal radio station Ekho Moskvy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Not only the country is at a dead end, but also the president. He can't leave. This means he will be arrested and tried. He understands this perfectly. Or you will have to leave the country and go into exile. What will happen to the family and the capital acquired?
Therefore, there are no illusions that Alexander Lukashenko will voluntarily leave his post. Although, it seems to me, it would be a beautiful move for him - to hold fair, calm elections and lose them. Everyone would say later: what a democrat Lukashenko turned out to be. But he won’t be able to do that,” Bolkunets is sure.
He predicts that Lukashenko will be removed as a result of street protests in August after the elections.
