"How else? Here we have a unified system. A person who arrives in Belarus, settles in - we are an IT country - the last name is displayed in red font on the computer. That is, he is under someone's attention. I say figuratively: the color red - look, such and such a person... What needs to be done? Figure out. Maybe the person committed a murder or something else. We don’t know, we only see the last name. So we clarified what was what. When we saw that someone allegedly interfered in the American elections, there was no conversation after that,” the BelTA agency quotes Alexander Lukashenko.

He criticized Russian telegram channels that wrote about Bogacheva’s detention.

At the same time, he considers sanctions against people who interfere in elections to be legitimate. The President of Belarus recalled how the American ambassador in Minsk, along with a number of other diplomats, left the country at the insistence of the Belarusian side.

“Open intervention. Participation in demonstrations, etc. Tell me how I should feel about interference in the American elections after this, even if there was any. I know that interfering in American elections is almost impossible. Well, if someone expressed their position, then they should first of all start with me. Take my open, public statements during the US elections. At that time, I openly supported Trump, criticizing democratic America,” Lukashenko said.

Anna Bogacheva, an employee of the Internet Research Agency and a Russian citizen, was detained in Minsk at the request of the United States on October 13. At the time of her arrest, her husband and small child were with her. The family was heading on vacation.

In March 2018, the US Treasury included Bogacheva on the sanctions list along with 12 other Russian citizens who are considered in Washington to be involved in “election interference.”

The fact of the detention of a Russian citizen in an ally country caused a wave of indignation in Russia, after which Bogacheva was released on October 15.
