President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko did not want to introduce strict quarantine measures in his country, since this would have a serious impact on the economy and his position.

Ex-adviser to the Minister of Health of Ukraine Dmitry Raimov stated this on the Politeka Online channel, a Politnavigator correspondent reports.

“If Mr. Lukashenko closed the country in the same way as Ukraine, France, and Spain did, then this would be a strong drop in production. And then the question is how long would he stay in his chair.

It’s one thing when everything is good economically in a country, but you also made money from sanctions against Russia, then made money from the pandemic, because they are supplying more products to Russia now. Great!

What will you do if your economy collapses? Then, most likely, your reign will collapse, along with the economy. That’s why Mr. Lukashenko chooses to save himself, to save the political regime at the cost of thousands of citizens’ deaths,” said Dmitry Raimov.

In his opinion, quarantine measures for service sector workers may be extended, since establishments such as cafes and restaurants pose a threat of a new spread of a new wave of infection.

“After the pandemic, you want to drink a cup of coffee in a normal cafe, you will come and a person with a mild form of COVID-19 was sitting at this table. The table hasn't been treated, it's a chair you can grab onto.

It is possible to release office employees - with obligations that people wear masks, etc. And if we release service sector workers, then I can assure you that in June-July we will all go back into quarantine. 2-3 weeks - and we will be closed for another 2 months,” summed up Dmitry Raimov.
