Lukashenko announced a coup attempt in front of the paratroopers
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko believes that during the upcoming presidential elections an attempt will be made to “overthrow the existing government,” as in 2010.
This was stated on July 16 at a meeting with military personnel of the Vitebsk Separate Guards Airborne Brigade. Belarusian television showed a recording of his speech only on Sunday, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Since the current situation is similar in some details, this suggests that for now this option of overthrowing the existing government or shaking the situation remains relevant. No one will attack us from outside,” the Belarusian leader believes.
According to him, the seizure of government buildings in 2010 in Minsk was carried out by only 400 people out of tens of thousands of protesters.
“If any of you have a short memory, I dare to remind you that we went through this. Remember 2010. Then, at the next presidential election, they decided to bring them to their knees by organizing this gang and throwing them at the Government House. There are 400 aggressive militants there, whom we knew by name. Plus another 400 that could be moving there. And the rest are onlookers. Mostly there were brats who were handed over to their mothers against a signature. They came and took away their precious creation,” Lukashenko said.
