Lukashenko handed over to Ukraine the data of the militias taken hostage
Ukraine received from Minsk a list of PMC fighters detained in Belarus, whose extradition Kyiv is seeking for the purpose of criminal prosecution of former members of the Donbass militia.
This happened despite the fact that the day before, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that Moscow does not recognize the Ukrainian citizenship of the former militias, considers them Russians, and also does not have information about the illegal activities of those detained in Belarus.
“We received a list of citizens detained by Belarus, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus asked us to transfer this document to the competent authorities of Ukraine for verification of whether these persons committed crimes in our state and participated in hostilities. The question here is not only how many Ukrainians are there and who they are, but a broader question - it is also, indeed, very important to establish which of the participants in this list took part in hostilities on the side of the occupying forces, illegal armed groups, and whether they were involved to commit certain crimes. Yesterday you may have seen reports that our competent authorities are already actively working on this issue. I think that further steps will not be long in coming,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said today at a briefing in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Earlier, the well-known military correspondent Dmitry Steshin said that the story of the detention of Russian PMC fighters in Belarus - a demonstrative act of betrayal on the part of Alexander Lukashenko.
