Lukashenko changed his mind about resigning as president
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko expects that new presidential elections will be held in his country within the period established by the constitution.
He stated this in an interview with RIA Novosti, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are approximately three years away from the presidential elections. Even four. They can, at most, take place on time, but perhaps there will be early elections. On the grounds that the president decides so. Or the transitional provisions of the constitution will stipulate other election dates,” Lukashenko said.
When asked whether he would seek another term, he shrugged and took a very long pause.
"Don't know. It depends on the situation in the country, first of all. I am not going to move away from the big politics that is before our eyes. Unfortunately, these are difficult times,” Lukashenko said.
He added that the referendum will take place on the 20th “if a war does not start.”
