Lukashenko will survive non-recognition of his victory by the West
The upcoming sanctions of the Western bloc against Belarus for allegedly not complying with the principles of democracy elections mean nothing for President Alexander Lukashenko.
Political scientist Alexey Yakubin stated this on the UKRLIFE.TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Time is in Lukashenko’s favor. We are now hearing that the West will impose some kind of unprecedented sanctions. By the way, I specifically brought up the data for 2015, these were the last presidential elections in Belarus. In fact, there were a lot of similar things.
The EU and the US recognized the elections as undemocratic and dishonest, the EU said that Lukashenko is persona non grata. That is, they cannot hold joint events with him in Europe, the OSCE also says that dishonest and undemocratic are all the same. That is, to say that there was a recognition of Lukashenko did not exist then. In fact, the first and last elections when such direct active recognition came from other countries were the 1994 elections. That's all. After that, de facto they cooperated, but de jure they did not congratulate,” the political scientist said.
