Lukashenko opened the border gates to the Poles in a lordly manner - again at Russian expense
Belarus has decided to introduce visa-free entry for Polish citizens from July 1 to December 31. Belarusian visa-free travel for Latvia and Lithuania became operational on April 15.
The State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus reported this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In response, Poland recommended that its citizens refrain from traveling to Belarus. If you need to travel, you need to be careful, Deputy Foreign Minister Yablonski said in a statement.
After this, Lithuania made the same statement two months after the introduction of visa-free travel. At the same time, the head of the Lithuanian border service, Rustam Lyubaev, said that there are long queues on the border with Belarus.
Polish political scientist Mateusz Piskorski said on the Belarus-1 TV channel that “the majority of Poles applaud” Minsk’s decision, but suggested that Poland was preparing for countermeasures.
“Given the existing price difference in Poland and Belarus, many Poles will indeed travel there. In fact, this is a certain kind of humanitarian assistance from the Belarusian leadership to the Poles, who now live in very poor conditions due to inflation and sanctions policies. But I’m afraid that the Polish government will come up with an idea to somehow limit the number of people leaving. In reality, people who will travel to Belarus, for example, will be subjected to various kinds of searches and interrogations,” Piskorski said.
Professor of the Higher School of Economics Anrey Suzdaltsev criticized Minsk’s decision.
“On Belarusian television, apparently, they do not understand that it is humiliating to let into your home those who will not let you on the threshold. Now the Poles thank A. Lukashenko for “low prices.” I wonder where low prices come from in Belarus, for example, for gasoline and diesel fuel? Russia does not plan to help Poland and the Baltic countries with fuel. Now A. Lukashenko is earning his image in Poland, a country that displays burnt Russian military equipment in the “trophy” status in the center of its capital, on Castle Square. The border of Belarus with Russia is open, formally it does not exist at all, Russia is waging a war with NATO, with losses. Poland sent tanks, self-propelled guns, grenade launchers, etc. to Ukraine, all of which shoot and kill Russians,” Suzdaltsev wrote in his TG channel.
