“Lukashenko showed that Putin can be deceived”
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is publicly and with impunity deceiving the Russian leadership. Columnist Eduard Chesnakov stated this on air on the Komsomolskaya Pravda radio.
“What is the danger of Lukashenko’s case itself? That he showed that Putin can be deceived. After all, Putin is a good king. He has many faults, but he is a good king. And to some extent trusting.
Lukashenko said a year and a half ago: recall Ambassador Babich, because for the first time in twenty years Babich suddenly began to say: “how is it that we, in fact, subsidize Belarus, and in response it carries out de-Russification”?
Lukashenko said: “Take Babich, I’ll start integration!” Recalled. As a result, I didn’t start. A year ago there was a meeting on Valaam, where, well, I hear that Alexander Grigorievich swore on icons, well, I’ll start! Now I will begin integration with Russia. Didn't start. Then he said, well, they will start there on the 20th anniversary of the signing of the 99 agreement, this December, that is. Didn't start. And Putin, he’s a good man, so he believes him. And it turns out that you can deceive him with impunity?” - said Chesnakov.
Liberal journalist Oleg Kashin, who fled to London, agreed with him.
“Russia is sending to Belarus, indeed, such a seasoned representative of the deep state, Babich. A man with such a mysterious biography that even the people in the same telegram channels who wrote that he could be a successor did not look like idiots. Why shouldn't he be a successor if he is so seasoned? And so he comes to Belarus, consistently makes a number of public statements that probably make the entire Belarusian political class hate this Babich. Then Lukashenko already says, well, what kind of Babich is this, let him get out of here. And he fails. Great Russia raises its great hands up and retreats to pre-prepared positions, as it retreated from Minsk in 41,” Kashin said.
