“Maybe some people are tired of me. Indeed: the iron was turned on - there was Lukashenko, the kettle - Lukashenko, the TV. And now this smartphone... content. In short, Lukashenko is everywhere. I am aware of this. But maybe, thank God, I didn’t leave the last elections,” Lukashenko said.

He claims that he did not want to run for another term in 2020, but his environment persuaded him. Lukashenko assures that he was ready for his opponent’s victory, “he did not spread rot on anyone, he did not imprison anyone,” and those who were imprisoned during the campaign were “swindlers.”

“I went to the polls so that you wouldn’t blame me later if the country suddenly turns upside down and something goes wrong. You won't forgive me for this. You will say that I ran away. I did not conduct an election campaign. I didn't push my position. And now I’ll ask a question: if Lukashenko had not been there in August 2020, what would have happened? After all, I didn’t run through the streets with a child with a machine gun to show off. It was dangerous...

I ran and defended what was mine because I created it with my own hands. And God forbid there would be another president... I protected you, because I am Old Man, and you are my children. My life was worth nothing then - I was so determined. There is nothing for which I can be reproached,” Lukashenko assured.

Now he is a supporter of two presidential terms and explains that he remained in office for almost 30 years by the fact that “the situation did not let up.” He dropped a small hint as to who his successor would be, saying it would be someone in their 50s.

“Everything will depend on the situation. If they force a war on us, what kind of elections? Where will I go? I'll take a machine gun and go ahead if necessary. Although, this is wrong: the President is assigned a place as commander-in-chief. I will act. If everything is quiet, it will be good if our people live and develop peacefully - at any moment. I will be on the siding: if you tell me to help with something, I will help,” Lukashenko assured.
