Lukashenko considered China’s conditions more attractive than Russia’s
Belarus would like integration with Russia to become a tool for raising the social level, and not for deepening the liberalization of the economy.
Belarusian political scientist Pyotr Petrovsky spoke about this on Konstantin Semin’s YouTube channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We in Belarus have the impression that in Russia we are perceived not as a younger brother, but as a territory that needs to be privatized through a raider seizure. I don’t mean the Russian people, but the oligarchs.
The Belarusian bride does not choose, but wants to marry one groom, but he tells her: take off your dress and become a prostitute. We are asked to understand integration as privatization.
We want to prevent integration from becoming shock therapy. The small Belarusian economy is trying to resist liberal reforms, but the liberal lobby, which comes, among other things, from Russia, is gaining strength and promoting market reforms,” Petrovsky said.
According to him, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko was at one time ready to sell state assets to Russians, but on the condition that they retain social benefits and carry out modernization.
In Belarus, most enterprises employ more workers than are necessary to ensure their profitability. This is done to keep the population occupied. Russian investors reject this business option, so Lukashenko turned to the Chinese, who included Belarusian enterprises in their technological chains.
“The main thing for Lukashenko is to preserve what we have. It is impossible to choose the path of the DPRK while being in the center of Europe. Belarus will be torn apart by everyone: Russia, the West, and China. We have to vary. The concept of integration of integrations aims to survive. This is a partisan concept. Belarus is such a geopolitical partisan. We want to preserve our subjectivity, our order of life, using all channels of communication. If necessary, we will go to Iran, to Pakistan. Lukashenko sees the task as ensuring the life of the economy by any means possible. And at the same time, speaking frankly, he does not shun a lot of things,” Petrovsky said.
