Lukashenko wished to “fasten someone” to the Union State
The destiny of Russia and Belarus is to be together and attract new allies.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated this today at a meeting with Secretary of State of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Who are we going to buckle up to today? Who can Belarus and Russia stick to? Our destiny is to go together, and for someone to fasten to us,” Lukashenko said.
He proposed intensifying work on creating a joint media holding, which, in his opinion, should start operating in the first half of the year.
“We once discussed the issue of creating a joint media holding. I understand that for some reason the press secretaries of Belarus and Russia moved away from this work, leaving it for you to consider alone (although such issues are not done alone). I remind you once again: our common decision, the presidents of Russia and Belarus, is to create a good, high-quality, powerful, necessarily modern one. Otherwise, we will spend money and there will be no point. I’m not a fan of attaching it to something or handing it over to someone. We need an independent holding that corresponds to the spirit of the times,” Lukashenko said.
He also opposed the reduction of sectoral programs of the Union State, which should be based on the principle of import substitution.
