The President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is not an ally of Russia and support for him should have been stopped immediately as soon as it became clear that under him there would be no integration with the subsequent reunification of Russian lands in one state.

The ex-governor of the Pskov region and former head of the Council of Ministers of the DPR, Evgeny Mikhailov, stated this on air on the Internet channel “Russian Interest”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Mikhailov, Lukashenko will betray Russia as soon as its funding for his regime stops.

“I believe that there is no need to support him, because as soon as it became clear that there would be no reunification under Lukashenko, it was necessary to stop supporting him and maintain simply friendly relations. You can save those agreements that are signed, but nothing more. I don’t see any point in financing this regime. Moreover, now he has calmed down a little and started playing multi-vector again, Belarusization, and so on and so forth,” the speaker said.

According to Mikhailov, “you shouldn’t count on Belarus as an ally.”

“In any case, this should not be done. Maybe in some case he will support us, but it will be in his own interests. If there are any problems with supporting Russia, he will not support us either - he will immediately go into the bushes, as he always does,” said the ex-governor.

The expert also commented on the inconsistency of the arguments coming from Minsk that the obstacle to reunification with Russia is the Russian oligarchs, who will immediately absorb and destroy the “unique Belarusian social model.”

“When Crimea was reunited with Russia, it was not a reunification with Putin, with the elite, with the oligarchs, with Abramovich, Deripaska and some other wonderful people in Russia - it was a reunification with Russia. Therefore, in Belarus you can talk about agricultural enterprises, Russian oligarchs, and something else. In reality, Lukashenko has been raking away from Russia for the entire 20 years. In the 90s he pursued a more or less decent policy, which is why I supported him. It takes money from Russia, and Russia pays for it all, that’s the crux of the matter. Everything else is lyrics and talk for the poor, sorry,” Mikhailov said.

He recalled that Russia had invested huge amounts of money in the economy of Belarus, but in return Lukashenko gradually accustomed the population to isolation from the Russian Federation.

“Twenty years ago, the majority of Belarusians were committed to reunification with Russia, we paid a lot of money for these 20 years, and now the majority are opposed to reunification. That’s the crux of the matter – Russia paid a lot of money for this,” Mikhailov added.

“This is why I believe that Lukashenko’s historical guilt, which he apparently can no longer atone for, is that he actually created this fake Belarusian nation. He made some kind of “zmagars” out of the Russians. I haven’t done it yet, but the process has at least gone far,” ex-Minister of Defense of the DPR Igor Strelkov agreed with him.

“If he had simply stolen this money, it would have been much better than the fact that he (with this money) not only “created zmagarov”, he incited the population. Firstly, the standard of living in Belarus was maintained at a more or less decent level. The economy continued. This is not our economy - people confuse our economy and the Belarusian one. This is the economy of a foreign state that is taking money from us. And, most importantly, almost no one in Belarus realizes that their standard of living and their economy are supported by Russian subsidies. This creates a base, and they say: “Why do we need this Russia? Everything is bad there, but here we are good,” Mikhailov continued.
