Lukashenko suggested that Poland start over with a clean slate and return to multi-vector
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, who for three months accused Lithuania and Poland of inspiring protests in his country, on Saturday offered friendship to his neighbors.
He stated this at the opening of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our peoples were once in the same state, they lived normally, and they still lived normally. No, out of the blue they got into our garden. Well, okay, if you realized that you were mistaken, leave our garden, let’s work together: you in your garden, we in ours. Let's produce electricity, sell it, exchange electricity. Let's live normally! We are neighbors, and we don’t choose neighbors.
I want to say the same thing to the Polish leadership: nothing will work out for you. We will not kneel. We will respond, and I have already said: even if we are left alone surrounded, we will respond. I think they understood this. Let’s work together, we are ready to cooperate openly,” Lukashenko said.
Russian State Duma deputy Elena Panina was outraged by his words.
“Lukashenko’s words indicate an important vector. He wants to start everything from scratch, returning to his previous “multi-vector” policy. However, he is in the wrong position; the European Union has already denied him legitimacy by expanding the sanctions list to include the Belarusian president and, in addition, 14 high-ranking officials. This is a “black mark” sent by Lukashenko, and Warsaw and Lithuania, even if they would like to restore relations with Minsk, cannot do anything about it.
Instead of weaving yet another ingenious lace in the sphere of foreign policy, today they expect something different from the Belarusian president. He must, as soon as possible, launch the process of constitutional changes that will allow the formation of new authorities, whose primary tasks include completing the integration of Russia and Belarus, establishing dialogue with Belarusian society, carrying out economic reforms and restoring trust in Russia,” Panina wrote in her telegram channel .
