Lukashenko predicted victory for Trump and promised to make Minsk the capital of the United States
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko promised to make Minsk the “capital of the USA” in 2021.
He made a sensational statement at the opening of the Europe-USA track and field match, which is taking place in the Belarusian capital.
This tournament is a revival of the USSR-USA match, which was held from 1958 to 1985 to provide an opportunity for track and field athletes from two continents to compete. After the establishment of the World Athletics Championships, the need for such matches disappeared. However, in 2017, it was decided to revive the match in a new form. Minsk hosts the first competitions of US and European track and field athletes.
“The same match will take place in 21 (they take place every two years). But due to the fact that the World Cup will be held in the USA, he cannot do it there. We suggest you spend two years in Belarus, neither in distant Europe nor in America. And in two years, if you instruct us, we will hold a similar match at an even higher level. I promise you that in two years Minsk will become the capital of the United States of America,” Lukashenko said.
The Minsk stadium reacted to this with thunderous applause. Lukashenko clarified, “so that we are not suspected of doing anything wrong, that we want to annex America,” that Minsk will become the capital of the United States only for the duration of the competition.
“We will come to an agreement with Donald Trump. He will win the elections and, I think, will appear at this stadium in the capital, as I already said, for the next athletics games of the match of the century,” added the Belarusian president.
