Lukashenko threatened the West with the introduction of “all Armed Forces of the Russian Federation” into the country
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko admitted that in case of danger, “all the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation” would be brought into the country’s territory.
He stated this today at a meeting with activists of the local power vertical, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They howled: we are conducting joint exercises here with Russia. It's funny to hear this, to say the least. How many exercises they conducted near our borders! They criticize us: Lukashenko wants to place Russian bases on the territory of Belarus.
Listen, we’re not worried about the fact that they created a bunch of such bases on our western borders. There's a sea of them there. Why are you making any claims to us? Well, the most important thing: the issue of placing Russian bases in Belarus has never been discussed at the presidential level. First of all, because there is no need for this with modern weapons.
But I must tell you frankly: if for the security of the Union State that we are building, it becomes necessary to station all armed forces with all types of weapons here, they will be stationed immediately,” Lukashenko said.
At the same time, he emphasized that there is no such need now.
“We have quite strong, united, compact armed forces. Not counting the “territories,” we can put 500 thousand people under arms at the right moment in a short period of time, and this is already force. If there are not enough, all the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will be brought in here. This will never happen. But if necessary, we will not hesitate. I want them to hear this.
During the acute period, when someone hesitated, someone betrayed, someone crawled under the plinth, someone’s brains were boiling, I did not bring in any armed forces: neither from Russia nor from Ukraine. We dealt with this disaster ourselves,” Lukashenko said.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov confirmed today that the leadership of Belarus did not appeal to Russia with a request to send troops.
Belarusian Political Scientist Valery Karbalevich claims that in this way the president reacted to Joe Biden’s recent meeting with the self-proclaimed “leader of the nation” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.
“Lukashenko provoked a migration crisis on the border with Lithuania. He threatens that these migrants will soon cross the border with weapons. Now the new threat is Russian troops. He uses all the cards he has. But the last argument turned out to be not very successful, because even Russia is not very happy with this. After all, before Lukashenko had time to finish his speech, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov carefully disavowed him. So this threat didn’t work out very well,” Karbalevich said on the liberal and anti-Russian radio station Ekho Moskvy.
