Lukashenko admitted the shortcomings of his army
A sudden check of the combat readiness of the armed forces of Belarus was carried out “just in case.”
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced this today at a meeting following the event, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We cannot exclude that aggression may be launched against our country. At least we see such readiness on the part of our neighbors. We know who is pushing these same neighbors in the back (or somewhere else on the body) so that they create tension on our borders,” Lukashenko said.
According to him, special operations forces were transferred to the western and northwestern directions with the crossing of two units across the Neman and Berezina rivers and the rapid construction of pontoon bridges. The southern direction (the Ukrainian border) was also covered, but without forcing natural barriers.
“Everything is like in wartime. In these proposals, from the experience of my service, I was alarmed by the duration of the marches - more than 100 km. This bothered me, but anything can happen during a war, and I agreed,” Lukashenko said.
At the same time, an anti-terrorism exercise was conducted.
“No one excludes that terrorist groups invade the territory of Belarus from within (which is unlikely, practically impossible) and from without and seize either a separate building, house, government institution, school, God forbid, or a populated area as a whole. And here a counter-terrorist operation is being carried out,” Lukashenko said.
He admitted that there were shortcomings in the actions of the Belarusian military.
“I’ll tell you straight, without hiding anything, so that we don’t click our heels and shout hurray: there were also shortcomings. These are the shortcomings that I would like the attention to be focused on today. Because in the event of hostilities, these shortcomings will become critical - people will die. This cannot be allowed,” Lukashenko said.
