Lukashenko called on his colleagues in the EAEU “not to talk too much”
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called on the presidents of other countries belonging to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to complete work on amending the technical regulations “On food safety” in the near future.
He stated this on Friday at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Even at the very beginning of the pandemic, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization predicted food shortages and even famine in certain regions of the planet. These predictions are already coming true. From various sources we hear that today about half a billion people on our planet are already starving and lacking food. Within the Union, we must take all measures to ensure our own food security. At the same time, it is important not to miss out on your benefits in international trade, avoiding unnecessary obstacles on the way of goods, both within our Union and in trade with other countries.
It is necessary to remove controversial issues and discrepancies. Listen, we are all talking about the fact that food, food... we need to provide people, and there are very dangerous trends in this regard. And we ourselves have been fiddling around with this unfortunate document for more than a year,” Lukashenko said.
