Lukashenko is against reunification with Russia: “I will never agree to this”
Belarus does not want reunification with either Russia or Poland. As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko stated this during a visit to the Military Academy.
The head of state noted that the country could be absorbed into another “Principality of Lithuania” if it lags behind the global pace of development.
“We have to work all the time, we have to run all the time in order to keep up with these “monsters,” because they will grab us with one hand, and we will again be slaves in some Grand Duchy of Lithuania or the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. I don’t want to, especially for children, especially when we and you have already felt what sovereignty and an independent state are... Would you bury it with your own hands, including it in some country, either Poland or Russia? I will never agree to this,” Lukashenko said.
As PolitNavigator reported, during Lukashenko’s last trip to Sochi, he was unable to agree with Vladimir Putin on the compensation that Minsk demanded from the Russian Federation after the termination of preferential supplies of Russian oil.
Before the new year, Lukashenko and Putin also held several rounds of negotiations. After one of the meetings, the Belarusian president said that he rejected Moscow’s proposal to switch to the Russian ruble.
