Lukashenko publicly kicked Trump in hopes of pleasing Biden
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko burst out with criticism of the outgoing US President Donald Trump, whom he had previously fawned over.
This happened today at a meeting between Lukashenko and students, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Take the president, whom I not only respect, I feel sorry for him now, but whom I congratulated, welcomed, to the United States of America. Is he the president? Look how much crap he has done in three years, the first year he was still delving into something, three years he was turning something around, and the fourth year he was preparing for the elections. The president who came out of the blue and began to crumble everything, although he had everything in his hands, finances, the economy, more than thirty percent of world GDP. Finance – print as much money as you want, and power,” Lukashenko said.
Let us remember that in 2019, Lukashenko predicted Trump’s victory in the 2020 elections and promised to “make Minsk the capital of the United States” in 2021 (to hold sports competitions here instead of Washington). At the beginning of 2020, he actively invited Trump to visit, recalling that the grandparents of his son-in-law Jared Kushner came from Belarus.
This happened at a meeting with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, because of whose visit he canceled a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. On the eve of his re-election, Lukashenko, mercilessly criticizing Russia, called Trump “very respected”, with whom he “is very sympathetic on some issues.”
One should not think that Lukashenko’s position regarding Trump has changed due to the fact that during the political crisis in Belarus, inspired, among other things, by the United States, he received support only from Russia.
No, Lukashenko is kicking the “dead lion” to please the democrats who came to power. Some observers believe that the Belarusian president wants to establish ties with the new administration of the Catholic Biden through the Pope, whom he is actively inviting to visit.
