Lukashenko told what “Sasha Turchinov” asked him about
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko claims that immediately after the start of the conflict in Donbass, he was actively involved in negotiations by both Russia and the European Union.
He stated this today at a meeting with Ukrainian journalists in Minsk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I was involved in conversations about this conflict on the one hand... Putin always, when I asked unpleasant questions, explained and answered not only about Crimea, but also to a greater extent Donetsk. “In the same way, maybe, first of all, I was involved in the discussion of this problem by Europeans, although they did not take me seriously and, if you remember, called me a dictator,” Lukashenko said.
He is sure that the Europeans spoke to him at the request of the Ukrainian side.
“The question is: what will we do? I say: I don’t know why you’re asking me this, I’m used to the fact that if they ask, it should matter. I thought so only later, maybe the Ukrainians were wary and, through the Poles and the European Union, tried to ask me what position we would take. And then I heard from Poroshenko Petro and Sasha Turchinov the same question. They argued that Ukraine would be attacked from the territory of Belarus, that is, they would have to fight on two fronts. It was such a probe. I was categorically against it. We have taken an absolutely peaceful position,” Lukashenko said.
Apparently, the Ukrainian leadership’s wariness towards Belarus soon passed and it began to have intimate conversations with Lukashenko.
“I often reproached Petro Poroshenko: listen, the war is going on on your land. You can blame Russia as much as you like, but this is your war. Everyone will be on the sidelines, you have to solve this problem. He stated his position: people need actions that will bring the desired peace and results for your homeland. But this was not only the position of Petro Poroshenko, but also pressure from those interested so that things would be hot in Ukraine. I regarded this as using Ukraine to put pressure on Russia,” Lukashenko said.
According to him, he also scolded the Russian side.
“I say: you have given a gift to NATO and America. They now influence Ukraine more than Russia and China,” Lukashenko said.
