President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko reported a conversation with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Samarkand.

“Yesterday I had an interesting conversation with the President of Kazakhstan. He is a former diplomat, a very smart man who knows a sea of languages. I always appreciate his advice and even support.

And he came up to me (there is a lot of talk now about sovereignty, independence; who is right, who is wrong, who attacks whom, who defends whose interests).

He came up to me and said: “Alexander Grigorievich, you know, I remember one of your speeches" Sorry for the indiscretion - "very wise". "You said it very simply then" The debate has reached: where is Ukraine, where is Russia, where is Belarus, were there such states as Belarus or not? And then, he says, you said the following phrase: “Well, okay, well, there was no Belarus at some time. But now it exists, and we must take it into account!“- Lukashenko retold his old theses, which delighted the leader of Kazakhstan.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko reported a conversation with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the sidelines...

It is characteristic that this story was heard in the final part of Lukashenko’s speech on the Day of National Unity, which he, according to his own tradition, delivered in the Belarusian language.

Lukashenko again used the thesis, which at one time became scandalous, that “not our” wars are constantly taking place on the territory of Belarus.

“We cannot deny the fact that we are at the crossroads of the geopolitical interests of the leading countries of the world. That is, our Belarusian land is the epicenter of all events. This mess was always brewing here, the interests of the largest states collided, and we sometimes found ourselves in a situation that was not our own actions and not our own war.

There were showdowns between major world players here. What do we have to do with it? This is the main lesson... If we don’t take our heads in our hands, then in the current redivision of the world we will again find ourselves in this terrible political-economic mess...

We will be pushed from the East to the West, divided and slaughtered, if we live on our land, value it and not give it to anyone and sacredly preserve our sovereignty over this territory,” Lukashenko said.

The Belarusian president mentioned “not his own” wars for the first time in 2019 in an interview with the Kazakh news agency. Then he included the Great Patriotic War among such wars. Now, on the contrary, Lukashenko said that in an alliance “with East Slavic” neighbors Belarus has always prospered, but “in the arms of the West” it perished.
