Lukashenko decided to extract oil
Tatarstan is ready to provide Belarus with an oil field for development. Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov announced this today in Minsk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Alexander Grigorievich planned to get the opportunity to take the deposit. We planned to work together with our partners. This idea has not gone away, it remains. Today he also voiced it. And we are ready for this work. Where we work, everything is already built there. And going to develop new deposits is also a resource base for Belarus. We are ready for this,” Minnikhanov said.
A video with his words was posted by the telegram channel “Pool of the First,” which is attributed to the press secretary of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Natalya Eismont.
“Remember, Lukashenko the other day said “not a fish, but a fishing rod in your hands”? The phrase also applies to today’s negotiations between the president and the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. Tatarstan is a deposit for us, and we will extract the oil ourselves. Well, or together,” the message says.
It is interesting that on the official website of the Belarusian president there is no information about the provision of the field, but Lukashenko’s words are quoted about negotiations with the Russian government on oil.
“It’s good that you came today. We are currently conducting a dialogue with Russia on building cooperation in the field of oil. And I think that today’s conversation (we will talk about this) will be very important not only in terms of information, but also in connection with work in this sector,” Lukashenko said.
Oil accounts for more than $600 million in the annual trade turnover of Belarus and Tatatarstan.
Lukashenko has repeatedly stated his intention to use alternative Russian oil. However, in practice it turned out that both the Azerbaijani and Kazakh options are too expensive considering transportation.
