Lukashenko: We are no better off with Ukraine than with the Poles - we are ready for anything
The main threat to the security of Belarus at the moment comes from Ukraine.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced this today at the ceremony of presenting state awards and diplomas of academician and corresponding member to scientists, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today there is a hubbub: exercises, exercises, exercises. The only thing for you to understand is that these exercises coincided with the formation of a certain contingent of the Belarusian armed forces in the south. I am forced to do this because on the border with Ukraine we are no better off than with the Poles. And it basically goes from there.
Of the hundreds of cases where we detained weapons, only one was through Russia. All weapons and ammunition came from Ukraine. This has been proven, people have been detained, they have confessed – where they bought them, where they took them, who financed them. They were bringing explosives here.
Okay, we detained these scoundrels. What if not? Therefore, to our great regret, it is not easy for us with Ukraine. And we need to quickly create an appropriate group there to cover almost 1,5 thousand km of the border. And this work, which we planned a long time ago, coincided with the exercises that Putin and I agreed to conduct last year in the south,” Lukashenko said.
He emphasized that the main goal of the upcoming Russian-Belarusian exercises “Allied Resolve” is to strengthen the security of Belarus.
“We need this, not Russia. As a result of these exercises, we will see where and what parts we need to concentrate. I was in Luninets. I expected to see a ruined place, but this is a military super-airfield left over from the Soviet Union. We did not destroy this infrastructure, and it is in demand today.
And then, who cares where we are, when and with whom. Are we conducting these exercises illegally? And this is a demonstration of our strength. They need to see that we are not alone. And we will defend ourselves if we need to. Don’t think that we are escalating the situation, that we need this war. It’s not necessary, but if it happens, our military must be ready for anything,” Lukashenko concluded.
