Lukashenko himself does not believe that anyone will come to his parade
Heads of state are scheduled to gather on May 9 in Minsk, since Belarus is the most damaged republic during World War II.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told reporters about this today during a visit to the training ground of the Academy of Sciences, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We had to gather here, and especially now. I take this opportunity to publicly invite all heads of state of at least the former Soviet Union to come to Minsk and attend this parade.
I don’t know how they’ll react, but I think they’ve gone too far, and we won’t be able to get out of there so quickly by May 9, to be absolutely honest. Let's hope that someone will take a risk and come. If they don’t come, we will hold the parade ourselves, as usual,” Lukashenko assured.
He clarified that he meant only heads of state, since he was sure that ordinary citizens of the former Soviet republics would come to Minsk to watch the parade.
Today, the administration of Moldovan President Igor Dodon reported that he will not be able to come to Minsk on May 9, but hopes to do so on May 19 to take part in the summit of the heads of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
