Lukashenko made a proposal to Merkel to resolve the migration crisis
Belarus has a plan to counteract the 20 thousand Polish troops concentrated on the border to prevent migrants from the Middle East.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced this today at a meeting following his conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We came to the consensus that no one needs escalation – neither the European Union, nor Belarus. And we cannot allow an escalation, no matter how much someone might want it, to the point of a heated confrontation.
Yes, we never agreed to this escalation. I just said that there are about 20 thousand armed people on the border on that side. We did not deploy a single platoon, not a single company - military - there on the border. The commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the army did not give such an order. But we have plans to counter any aggression on their part. I gave such a command to the Minister of Defense and other generals and security forces,” Lukashenko said.
At the same time, he informed the chancellor that 4681 migrants were expelled from the territory of Belarus. Among them are 3042 Iraqis, 696 Iranians, 487 Syrians, 19 Afghans, 215 Egyptians, 242 Libyans.
“Those who come to Belarus legally, we accept them here. Just like in any other country. Anyone with even the slightest violation of the law is sent on the plane and back. There are about 5 thousand of them today. I informed the German Chancellor on this issue,” Lukashenko said.
He clarified that Merkel made a proposal to resolve the situation.
“I won’t specify it now. We agreed with Merkel that we will not talk about this specifically for now. She asked for time, a pause, to discuss this proposal with EU members. We will talk again on this issue in the near future. And I have already said that I would like to hear a response to my proposal from Merkel to resolve this conflict,” Lukashenko said.
