Lukashenko compared his policy to a double-headed eagle: he looks both east and west
Belarus will pursue a multi-vector foreign policy.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced this today in Brest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Everyone wants to influence. But you have known my character and me for a long time. I do not accept when people begin to exert excessive influence to the detriment of our people. It is unacceptable. This is the main thing – a multi-vector policy. We must look both to the East and to the West. By the way, Russia has nothing to reproach us with. They even have a two-headed eagle - it looks both here and there. And no one will forbid us to look in different directions,” his press service quotes the Belarusian president.
According to Lukashenko, the Russian leadership does not blame him for his contacts with the West.
“Let’s calm down, the foam will go away, the wind will carry away these light chips. And we will live as we lived with the Russians. We are one people, I have said a thousand times. These are our people, our brothers. We were always together with them, they always lent us a shoulder. And the fact that we sometimes have problems with Russia today is not with the Russian people and not with the Russians. They treat us brilliantly. Why should we treat them badly, turn around somewhere, betray them, as some say. This will never happen. This won't happen even without me. Belarusians will not allow our older brother to be betrayed. But we require the elder brother to be the elder brother. So that they don’t spread rot, don’t bend us down, but support us in difficult times,” Lukashenko said.
