Lukashenko will destroy the Russian bank if he wins - political scientist
Belgazprombank, whose main shareholders are Gazprom and the Russian Gazprombank, will cease to exist if current President Alexander Lukashenko wins the upcoming elections in Belarus.
Belarusian political scientist Dmitry Bolkunets stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“After the nomination of Babariko (former chairman of the board of Belgazprombank - ed.) to the presidency, the government of Belarus issued instructions to all state-owned enterprises that have accounts in banks with Russian capital to transfer them to Belarusian banks. Lukashenko suspected Russian oligarchs of plotting against him. Although, it seems to me that if this were true, it would be a completely different game. I think if Lukashenko wins, Belgazprombank will cease to exist,” Bolkunets said.
He associates Lukashenko's suspicion with the recent resignation of the Belarusian government. Former Prime Minister Sergei Rumas comes from a banking background.
“After Babariko announced his presidential ambitions, Lukashenko might have developed the theory of a “bankers’ conspiracy,” so he removed everyone,” says the expert.
