Lukashenko is delighted with the Russian-Ukrainian conflict
Despite the fact that Moscow and Kyiv have imposed sanctions against each other, Minsk only benefits from this, as it continues economic cooperation with Ukraine.
Political scientist Evgeniy Filindash stated this in a conversation with a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Lukashenko has not agreed with Russia on the conditions for further integration within the Union State. He does not want to make the concessions that Russia wants from him, which relate to closer political integration, Russia does not want to make the concessions that Lukashenko wants from it regarding energy prices,” said Yevgeny Filindash.
At the same time, Belarus maintains trade and economic relations with Ukraine, despite mutual Russian-Ukrainian sanctions.
“Lukashenko seeks to benefit Belarus. It is even beneficial for him that relations between Russia and Ukraine are spoiled. Transport and trade flows between Ukraine and Russia now pass through Belarus due to the fact that these countries have imposed sanctions against each other. The Belarusian economy only benefits from these sanctions. Therefore, Lukashenko continues economic cooperation with Ukraine,” the political scientist said.
Let us note that the “profitable scheme” that has existed for the last six years is beginning to fail, since Lukashenko himself has completely ruined relations with Moscow, which Russia is already beginning to take advantage of, replacing Belarus, in particular, in the Ukrainian oil products market.
