Lukashenko got into a diplomatic scandal with Kyrgyzstan
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan expressed its protest to Belarus today because of the meeting of the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko with the ex-President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev, accused in his homeland of massacres.
A message about this was posted on the official website of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Kyrgyz side considers it categorically unacceptable to use the state symbols of the Kyrgyz Republic and mention the Kyrgyz-Belarusian friendship during this meeting, which fundamentally does not correspond to the principles of friendship and cooperation between the two states,” the message says.
Today, Charge d'Affaires of the Belarusian Embassy Sergei Ivanov was invited to the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry. He was given a corresponding note.
According to the official website of the President of Belarus, on August 6, Alexander Lukashenko held a meeting “with his friend and colleague, ex-President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev.” Lukashenko congratulated Bakiyev on his recent anniversary and presented gifts and flowers. He called his “friend” a “proud bird” and asked for pilaf.
“At the office of the Head of the Belarusian State, Alexander Lukashenko and Kurmanbek Bakiyev stopped near the state flags of Belarus and Kyrgyzstan, which were presented not in the usual design, but in the form of a hologram. At the end of the congratulatory part, Alexander Lukashenko and Kurmanbek Bakiyev held a working meeting, discussing current issues.
Kurmanbek Bakiyev was the president of Kyrgyzstan from 2005 to 2010. During the riots on April 7-15, 2010, he was overthrown by the opposition and left the country, now in political exile in Belarus.
