Lukashenko: I don’t want to join Russia
Belarus should not be part of Russia in order to ensure its security, although this is a fraternal country for it.
President of the country Alexander Lukashenko stated this today, speaking at a ceremonial meeting dedicated to Independence Day, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We recently existed in this version. Brotherly, dear Russia. We can join Russia and ask them to protect us. Nuclear umbrella, hypersonic weapons and so on... We can ask and agree. I think, at least at first, it will be enough for our generation. Okay, there are children there - let them figure it out themselves later. They will protect us. Do you want to join Russia so that it can protect us? No. And I don’t want to,” Lukashenko said.
He also rejected the option of joining NATO.
“If we ask hard, they will promise us. And those who pee on the Internet, they would gladly accept it. Do you want this option? I don’t!” said Lukashenko.
He believes that Belarus must independently defend its sovereignty by strengthening the national army. Thus, Lukashenko responded to the ongoing discussion about tightening the conditions of conscription and the abolition of deferments from the army.
