Lukashenko is for integration only when he is in charge
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko spoke in favor of strengthening integration and the creation of supranational governing bodies, but not within the framework of the Union State with Russia, but in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
He addressed the heads of the EAEU member countries due to the fact that the representative of Belarus, Mikhail Myasnikovich, headed the main executive body of the association, the Eurasian Economic Commission.
Lukashenko’s appeal was published on the official website of the President of Belarus, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Strengthening of the supranational competence of the Eurasian Economic Commission is required, primarily in areas with the largest number of barriers and exemptions... There is a need to establish a permitting procedure for the introduction of national restrictive measures, implying their preliminary consideration by the bodies of the Union,” Lukashenko wrote.
He spoke out in favor of giving the commission additional powers and against the adoption of national legal acts that run counter to the goals of the Union. The Belarusian president advocates the de-dollarization of economies and settlements in the national currencies of the member states.
These statements are noteworthy against the backdrop of Lukashenko’s delay in signing “road maps” for integration with Russia. However, “Batka” in an interview with the liberal Russian radio station “Echo of Moscow” openly hinted that he would agree to integration only if he was offered the post of president of the Union State.
