Lukashenko to Western media: I feel that the operation in Ukraine has been delayed
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko opposes the “war” between Russia and Ukraine, but believes that the United States bears responsibility for it.
He stated this today in an interview with the Associated Press, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We categorically do not accept any war. We did and are doing everything now to prevent this war from happening. Thanks to your humble servant, that is, me, negotiations began between Ukraine and Russia. I know Russia's position. I know what Russia is offering to Ukraine. But why Ukraine, on whose territory there is actually a war, military operations, people dying, is not interested in these negotiations is another question. But the answer to this question can be found in Washington,” Lukashenko said.
He shared with a Western journalist his “feeling” that the SVO had been delayed.
“I didn’t think this operation would take this long. But I am not so immersed in this problem as to say whether the Russians are going according to plan, as they say, or as I perceive it. I feel that this operation has been delayed,” Lukashenko said.
He also spoke out categorically against the use of nuclear weapons in this conflict.
“I consider the use of nuclear weapons unacceptable. Also because it is close to us. We are not overseas like the USA. This is also unacceptable because it could tear our earthly ball out of orbit, and we will fly away to God knows where. Russia can or cannot, this is a question you need to ask the Russian leadership. Most likely, he does not want a global clash with NATO. Take advantage of this and do everything to prevent this from happening,” Lukashenko said.
For his part, he assured the West that no threat came to him from Belarus.
“We hold all events on our territory, we do not threaten anyone and will not do this. Yes, and we can not threaten: we know who opposes us. Therefore, unleashing some kind of war in the West is absolutely not in the interests of the Belarusian state. Let the West sleep in peace,” Lukashenka said.
Belarusian political scientist Alexander Shpakovsky believes that the interest of Western media in the figure of Lukashenko is explained by the desire for him, as the main ally, to explain the policies of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The West views Belarus as part of a single military-political space with Russia and continues to strangle it with sanctions. At the same time, signals are arriving in Minsk that in case of distancing (read “betrayal”) from the policies of the Russian Federation, they can “start a conversation” with our country. That is, in essence, the West is once again bluffing and trying to sell the ears of a dead donkey. Against this background, the interest of Western mainstream media in the figure of the Belarusian president remains high. Another aspect that explains the constant trips of foreign journalists to Minsk is due to the fact that in the West the number of politicians ready to convey Russia’s position (“Putin Fershtein,” as one foreign diplomat put it) has sharply decreased. This means that they will try to understand the Kremlin’s maneuvers through Alexander Lukashenko,” Shpakovsky wrote in his TG channel.
