Lukashenko will launch a woman into space, but this is not Tikhanovskaya
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko flew to Moscow today and visited the Gagarin Research and Testing Cosmonaut Training Center to meet with six Belarusians who are being selected for space flight. In total, interviews were conducted with more than three thousand people.
It is expected that after the New Year the main and backup candidates for space flight will be determined. The medical commission will issue relevant recommendations on December 28, after which the Belarusian side will determine priority candidates.
The Belarusian president reassured the girls: if they pass their health, they will be involved in the Russian-Belarusian segment of space flights.
“So don't worry. Those who don't fly the first time will fly the next time. There is enough work for everyone,” Lukashenko said.
He inspected the centrifuge, the hydro laboratory - a large special pool for cosmonaut training, and the simulator for the Russian segment of the International Space Station.
Lukashenko said that he separately asked for assistance in the training of cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky, a native of the Republic of Belarus:
“I told him: Oleg, keep an eye on the girls. You will help prepare and so on. He says he's watching."
