Lukashenko harshly suppressed rallies of the pro-Western opposition

In Minsk, law enforcement officers detained the organizers and participants of the actions, which were announced by the pro-Western opposition in honor of the 99th anniversary of the proclamation of the “Belarusian People's Republic” - a failed state that local nationalists planned to create under a German protectorate.

In particular, in Minsk the opposition tried to hold a march through the city center, despite the fact that the action was not approved by the authorities. As a result, the route was blocked by riot police with shields.

To be fair, it should be noted that during the arrests, dozens of journalists, as well as random passers-by, were also caught in the paddy wagons.

The opposition claims that hundreds of people were detained during the protests.

It is interesting that in some other cities, for example Brest, the opposition managed to hold its own marches.

On the air of the pro-Western Belsat TV channel, today's actions were interpreted as a success for the opposition, evidence of the fear of official Minsk and the precarious position of the regime.

Rallies of solidarity with the Belarusian opposition took place today, in particular, in Warsaw (where Ukrainians with a yellow-blue flag joined the picket), as well as in New York.

The day before, the Belarusian authorities announced an attempt by opponents of Alexander Lukashenko to destabilize the situation.

“Like partisans, they dug holes and hid them. They hide weapons, fittings, axes, knives, grenades and so on... Someone wants to blow up the situation, and they use our scumbags... I can’t allow the Ukrainian version to be repeated in Belarus,” President Lukashenko said.
