Lupakov: The cruiser "Ukraine" is for scrap, it will be sunk by ancient German submarines
The unfinished missile cruiser "Ukraine", idle at the quay wall at the plant in Nikolaev, had to be sold back in the early 90s.
This was stated on TV channel 112 by the first deputy head of the Union of Officers of Ukraine, former commander of the 14th submarine division of the USSR Black Sea Fleet, Evgeniy Lupakov, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.

“We generally had problems with this ship, starting with its name. The whole problem is in this ship, firstly, even after the Academy, while on training exercises at the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet, they handed over this crocodile, “Ochakov”, the same ship (in fact, “Ochakov” is not a cruiser, but a large anti-submarine ship of a different project,” ed.), then the entire Black Sea Fleet could not protect him.
At one of the exercises, when we went out to sea to fire torpedoes with submarines, I was the senior on board this "Ochakov", the submarine of the 613th project is an old thing, developed by the Germans, which was captured by the Soviet Union during the Second World War. World War II, this submarine fired a single torpedo, it spun and spun, hit the propellers, and that’s it, it disabled the ship.
Ukraine clearly does not need this “crocodile”; it should have been sold along with the aircraft carrier to the Chinese, the Japanese, or anyone else, even then. There is nothing Ukrainian on it except the body. Everything else is Russian production.
All electronics are made in Russia. If it is put into operation, it means supporting the Russian military-industrial complex. Do we need this?
It was completed, it was in use, it underwent sea trials, it was stationed in Sevastopol, and the crews worked on it twice. The only thing not completed there is that the Russian Federation does not provide Basalta. But there is no need - today coastal missile systems are sweeping the Black Sea from coast to coast. Such a “crocodile” is not needed.
Even if he succeeds someday, let’s say, there will be “Basalts”, the former “Ochakov”, and now they called it “Moskva”, even if he fires missiles, today NATO electronic warfare will not allow these missiles to reach the aircraft carriers of the strike group. Rockets will fly anywhere in the world. And then it will be possible to load these missiles only in Sevastopol and only on a specially equipped pier. So during the war, this pier will definitely be destroyed. And that’s it, this “crocodile” will not be needed until the end of the war. So do we really need him? - said Lupakov.
