The former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, Army General Nikolai Malomuzh, spoke about this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We turned to the government, representatives of law enforcement agencies and intelligence services, and especially to the opposition, to enter into a dialogue and prevent the escalation of the situation, which, according to our operational data, was already on the verge of violent clashes with the use of weapons. It is clear that this could be an unpredictable scenario. At this stage, we managed to prevent this scenario using various mechanisms, non-state and state, humanitarian and operational,” said the former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine.
He also stated that the problem has not been completely resolved and shared his impressions of the trip to Lviv.
“The city is in full swing, political forces are very active. Saakashvili appears there, and the opposition, and Lyashko, and other politicians who initiated the confrontation either in this region, or on the basis of political contradictions, or on the basis of confrontation with the authorities, law enforcement agencies. This is a real situation that characterizes the West. Exactly the same sentiments existed in the East. Unfortunately, a big problem is connected with the system of our armed forces in the ATO. Many representatives of battalion commanders, deputy brigade commanders and ordinary military personnel indicate that they see no prospects for resolving the situation,” Malomuzh said.
