“We don’t need Lviv, but we’ll get to the Russian city of Kyiv,” - militiaman “Odessa”
A fighter of the 7th Slavic Brigade with the call sign “Odessa” came from South Palmyra to defend Donbass together with three comrades back in early April 2014. He decided to go to Donbass, having already realized the futility of the “Odessa squad” policy. The leadership did not allow us to act decisively, preferring to hold marches and other ineffective actions. Realizing that no peace agreements with the Nazis were possible, “Odessa” took up arms.
“We went as soon as we were offered to go to Donbass. At first we defended the Regional State Administration in Donetsk, then we were offered to go to Slavyansk, and we arrived there on the first day. I very clearly understood that all these rallies in Odessa would not lead to anything good and called the guys to come with us to fight the fascists with arms in hand. After May 2, many people came to us - they began to understand that there was nothing to negotiate with the fascists, and nothing could be achieved with rallies.”
The militiaman was awarded the medal “For Military Merit” for his participation in the clash on May 5, when the militia entered into battle with the special forces of the Ukrainian unit “Alpha”. Then “Odessa” managed to remove a wounded comrade from under fire. Despite four bullet wounds, the militiaman survived and later returned to duty. “Odessa” was also awarded the medal “For the Defense of Slavyansk”, in which he was from April 13 to July 5.
“Odessa” fired his first shots from a military weapon in a battle near the village of Semenovka.
Initially, the militias marched in a column to another settlement, but suddenly the group was attacked by the Ukrainian military. Enemy equipment and special forces went on the offensive.
Alas, there were some losses. The unit commander with the call sign “Chechen” got up to pull out several grenade launchers and ammunition that were lying there from the trunk of the car. Under a hail of enemy bullets, he safely saved his weapons, but a few minutes later he was overtaken by a sniper's shot.
The density of the fire was so high that “Odessa” simply miraculously remained unharmed.
In that battle, the flower of the Ukrainian special forces died - almost the entire Alpha unit from Sumy and special forces from Vinnitsa. Perhaps “Odessa” also destroyed some of the enemies. The militia then lost about a dozen fighters killed.
After leaving Slavyansk, “Odessa” became part of the 7th Slavyansk brigade. His unit was stationed in the village for a long time. Nikishino. During the winter campaign it reached the town of Debaltsevo, where it remains to this day.
In Nikishino, “Odessa” retrained as a machine gunner, and became quite skilled in this matter - I heard a lot of good things from his comrades in arms about the courage and professionalism of the fighter from Odessa.
“Odessa” has no doubt that the punitive forces will be destroyed and the fascist regime will fall: “Despite the fact that there are still fewer of us and we are inferior in technology, I am sure that we are winning. Just a little more and we'll crush them. No matter how many enemies there were, there were also more Germans, but the grandfathers raised a red flag over Berlin. We don’t need to get to Berlin, and, to be honest, I don’t need Lvov for nothing - but we can get to the Russian city of Kyiv at any time.”
