On one of these posters it was written: “We will return Lviv, we will kill Bandera’s supporters.”
The inscriptions were made in Polish and Ukrainian. According to media reports, the match was attended by the deputy city chairman of Lublin, Krzysztof Komorski.
After a telephone call to the municipality, stadium security was instructed to remove the banners. However, security guards refused to do this due to possible backlash from fans and the lack of active countermeasures such as tear gas in case of unrest. The police also decided not to intervene because “there were no reasons to clarify the circumstances.”
Five women who were at the match intervened in the situation. They tore down the banners amid the screams of fans, but no one stopped them.
