After Mikheil Saakashvili’s penetration into Ukrainian territory, it’s time for the President of Ukraine to flee the country.

Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this to “PolitNavigator”, answering the question of how the confrontation between Poroshenko and Saakashvili will end.

“Either Poroshenko will be able to neutralize him, which I doubt, or Poroshenko needs to flee the country. The latter is more likely - if Saakashvili was able to enter Lvov and Poroshenko’s power actually collapsed there, then this is already a significant indicator. This means that all the bureaucrats, all the security officials are already thinking about what will happen if Saakashvili enters Kyiv in the same way. Poroshenko has a very narrow toolkit. That's why he didn't want to let Saakashvili cross the border. Well, criminal cases have been opened. We need to make arrests. What if people defend themselves? Poroshenko will be accused of starting a civil war against the ideals of Maidan, of being an agent of Putin. If he fails to implement the detention of Saakashvili and his supporters, then everyone will understand that Poroshenko can only initiate criminal cases, but he cannot arrest. Therefore, the situation is difficult for Poroshenko,” the expert believes.

“Moreover, Saakashvili’s breakthrough showed that Poroshenko’s security forces are very conditionally following his instructions. They seemed to pretend that they didn’t want to miss him, but they missed him anyway. They pretended to try to prevent the support group from concentrating on the border, but in the end they allowed it to happen. In the end, the whole city, Lviv, came over to his side. Therefore, Poroshenko now actually has no tools. I don’t know what he will do now,” Ishchenko concluded.
