Lviv portal: The EU has no conscience. Western neighbors are preparing to abandon the Ukrainian gas transportation system
The prospects for the continuation of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine are disappointing.
The Lviv online publication Zahid.net comes to this conclusion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When Merkel and Biden said in the summer that they would not allow Russia to use Nord Stream 2 as a weapon, they probably did not expect that they would have to answer for their words so quickly. Nord Stream 2 hasn’t even launched yet before it has already become this weapon. And not only for Ukraine, but for the whole of Europe. But Merkel and Biden are silent. They have nothing to say. Now German politicians are more concerned about how to survive the winter and whether their industry will go bankrupt. And where Germany will get gas from—from Ukraine or through Nord Stream 2—doesn’t matter at all,” the author laments.
It recalls the recent words of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who said that there is no reason to blame Russia for the current energy crisis, since it is fulfilling all its obligations.
“Gazprom’s monopoly position makes Europe vulnerable to the actions of the Russian supplier. There is no point in hoping that all Europeans will awaken their conscience and remember about Ukraine. On the contrary, our western neighbors are already preparing to withdraw our gas transportation system from the Russian gas supply system. Hungary has agreed to supply blue fuel through the Turkish Stream. Romania did this even earlier. And Poland is relying on imports of liquefied gas from the United States. The prospects for us look disappointing,” the portal sums up.
