Lvov Russophobe: “It’s no longer possible to smoke out the Russian aggressor”
Russia never leaves the territories over which it has established control. An example of this is the situation with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which retained their independence thanks to Russian assistance in the 2008 war.
Lvov journalist Ostap Drozdov, who promotes rabid Russophobia, stated this on his video blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Drozdov, the fact that no one remembers the loss of Georgia’s control over these regions after 14 years of conflict is a dangerous precedent for Ukraine.
“This Georgian example, and most importantly, how not to become, it shows the practice of Russia, which people who work on Russia talk about a lot. They say that wherever she went, she, as a rule, never came out. And this is the Georgian example in the history of annexations, invasions, territorial encroachments and armed incursions.
Georgia is described as such a textbook example of the fact that it is virtually impossible to smoke out this aggressor, because the experience of losing territory for Georgia is 14 years in South Ossetia and 30 years in Abkhazia. Given this period of time, this is already a third of a century; with such timing of the loss of territories, in fact, this is already perceived as a certain status quo, settled, unfortunately.
And here Georgia and Ukraine find themselves in the same boat of victims of Russia. We also need to look at how the world community acted for 14 years and now, how proportionate it all is. When we talk about Georgia today, about how not to become Georgia, we should talk about how such a “Sarkozy plan” should not appear in Ukraine.
Then Sarkozy was the President of France, he was the main international regulator of this war, and the whole plan was, we would now call it, “rollback until February 24.” All that happened in Georgia, all that they could at that time was to offer Georgia and Russia to “rewind” the situation to the moment of the invasion.
That is, still leave both Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the status quo, which in fact was under invasion, captured and stuffed with Russian FSB officers and military personnel... 14 years have passed since that time, and the issue has not been resolved, the sovereignty of Georgia has been violated and recreated , has not been restored, and nothing suggests that it will ever be restored,” Drozdov said.
In his opinion, the danger for Ukraine today is that, just as 14 years ago, the world community recognized Georgia and Russia as equal “culprits” of the conflict, so today this history may repeat itself.
“The most tragic thing is that I’m generally afraid to draw parallels here with Ukraine, because if these parallels with Georgia extend to Ukraine, then it’s just a matter of throwing up our hands and all is lost. What is Georgia’s [loss] at the international level? The fact is that the report and decision, the interpretation of PACE, which formulated the entire war in this way: both Russia and Georgia bear equal responsibility for military actions, a military conflict.
If you follow this now, extend this thread to Amnesty International, you will see the same patterns. Some international organization proposes equal responsibility for the two parties,” Drozdov concluded.
